Does an Upside-Down Outlet Mean It’s Wired Incorrectly?
Not necessarily.
This is an important distinction.
The physical orientation of the receptacle doesn’t, by itself, tell you whether the wiring is correct.
A properly wired receptacle can be installed with the ground opening either up or down, depending on applicable electrical requirements and installation practices.
Likewise, a receptacle that looks completely normal from the outside could still have a wiring problem behind it.
That’s why you shouldn’t use orientation alone as a test of electrical safety.
